Mainstreaming Sustainable DevelopmentMeans integrating sustainable development within the overall management framework of an organisation rather than treating it as a separate entity. Sustainable development would therefore be integrated into the organisation’s policies, corporate plans, implementation plans, internal operations, staff training, employment practices, etc.
Malaise trapAn insect trap specifically designed to collect flying insects.

Match FundingEuropean funds usually meet only a proportion of the costs of any project. The remainder of the costs therefore has to be match funded from other resources, which can be from both the public and private sectors.
MCPFEMinisterial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe: also known as FOREST EUROPE this is the pan-European policy process for the sustainable management of the continent’s forests.
MedialIn Entomological Terms - referring to, or at the middle.
MesophilicRegarding temperature and humidity the medium conditions are preferred, avoids extremes.
Met-EireannThe Irish National Meteorological Service is the leading provider of weather information and related services for Ireland.
MetamorphosisThe process of development of an organism that involves distinct stages with an abrupt change between them.
Microbial pesticidesMicroorganisms (e.g. a bacterium, fungus, virus or protozoan) used to control specific invertebrate pests, weeds or plant diseases.
MicroclimateIs a local atmospheric zone where the climate differs from the surrounding area. The term may refer to areas as small as a few square feet or as large as many square miles. Microclimates exist, for example, near bodies of water which may cool the local atmosphere, or in heavily urban areas where brick, concrete, and asphalt absorb the sun's energy, heat up, and reradiate that heat to the ambient air: the resulting urban heat island is a kind of microclimate.
MilestonesKey events with dates marking significant new developments or stages.
Minimum InterventionManagement with no systematic felling or planting of trees. Operations normally permitted are fencing, control of exotic plant species and vertebrate pests, maintenance of paths and rides and safety work. (UKWAS 2006). Minimum Intervention is just one example of a LISS.
MitigationInterventions to reduce climate change e.g. greater use of wood as a source of renewable energy or as a carbon store.
MonotypyIn Entomological Terms – a situation where a genus group taxon is established with only one immediately subordinate taxon. e.g. A genus containing only one species.
MoultingThe shedding of its outer covering by a growing arthropod.
MRVMeasurable, Reportable and Verifiable. A process/concept that potentially supports greater transparency in the climate change regime.
